Salty Iguana Mexican Restaurant

8228 Mission Rd.
Prairie Village, KS 66208
913-381-3888
Website
One of the most kid-friendly Mexican restaurants in the metro area, the original Salty Iguana (there are also satellites in Independence and Lawrence) is loud, vibrantly colored (with paintings of lizards behaving like humans, which even the most ill-behaved toddlers find entrancing) and overseen by a quick-witted, friendly staff of very young servers. All of the restaurants offer a “Prairie Village Burrito,” overstuffed with spicy ground beef, pork and black beans, as well as an abundant assortment of traditional Mexican-American dinners. For frazzled parents desperate for sizzling fajitas or cheese-drenched chimichangas but saddled with a fussy eater, there are the standard burgers, chicken fingers and an “Iguana Dog” as an alternative to the Mexican motif. It’s common to see sophisticated singles sipping salt-rimmed margaritas in here, too — but seriously child-phobic diners might get a jaqueca headache that all the tequila in the world couldn’t cure. - Charles Ferruzza
