Mandarinism

4800 W 135th St. #170
Overland Park, KS 66224
913-239-8899
Taiwan-born Scott Lin and his wife Lian Sun chose the name Mandarinism, instead of the more picturesque Mandarin Palace or Mandarin Garden, to set it apart from traditional Chinese restaurants. Lin and his staff put a contemporary, sophisticated spin on classic Mandarin cuisine. Don’t look for crab rangoon on the menu; instead of shrimp toast, there’s baked shrimp crostini made with slices of French baguette, a compote of chopped tomatoes and peppers, minced shrimp and a bubbly blanket of cheese. Popular dishes such as orange beef and braised short ribs are prepared in creative and unexpected ways, dumplings are served with an ancho chile dipping sauce and the lettuce wraps include grilled sirloin. There are no fortune cookies at the end of a meal here, but after homemade sorbets, lychee panna cotta or warm custards in flaky pastry crusts, you won’t need a fortune — you will have found one already.
