This sleek, attractive Italian bistro with a beautiful rooftop lounge is the first Kansas City branch for the Milan-based Ruggeri family’s restaurant empire. The name is pronounced bee-chay – it’s the nickname of Beatrice Ruggeri, who opened the first family trattoria in 1926. This is no traditional Italian restaurant, although it does serve very fine pizza pie, a fork-tender osso buco and a decadent seafood risotto. Pasta dishes are inconsistent (when they’re good, they’re very good), and some unexpected multicultural choices turn up on the menu, such as tuna tempura rolls, lobster tortillas and hamburgers. Bice is sophisticated by Power & Light District standards, and the service is top-notch; what the cuisine lacks in lustiness, it more than makes up for in style.
