Accurso's Italian Food & Drink

5044 Main St.
Kansas City, MO 64112
816-753-0810
Website
This south Plaza location has been home to a café or deli since 1905, making it one of the oldest culinary venues in the city. Since 1984, jovial restaurateur Joe Accurso has served solid Sicilian-American fare here. The dining areas were recently expanded and redecorated. All the framed Accurso family photos are still on the walls, but the dining rooms have been covered in knotty pine paneling, giving the illusion that this popular Italian joint has been around since at least the 1960s. The menu evokes that period, too, with grande portions of eggplant Parmigiana, chicken Romano, fettuccine Alfredo and the addictively delicious ravioli Raphaela in roasted-red-pepper-cream sauce. Just like in Little Italy, the tables are still draped in red-and-white-checked vinyl, the salads are accompanied by really good garlic bread and the servers are buoyantly friendly. - Charles Ferruzza
