Happiness sometimes sneaks through a door you did not know you left open. The vote for Lewis & Clark Historic Park @ Kaw Point being the Best Park in 2007 is a just reward for the 100\'s of volunteers who have spent 1000\'s of hours creating a $4 million dollar legacy project of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. \"The best kept secret in the Kansas City Area.\"

Phase 111 now in progress will connect the park with the River Front Heritage Trail, a bi-state eleven mile-long ribbon of green spaces, pedestrian and bicycle paths, historical markers, and dramatic public artworks. Expanding the park and trail not only gives residents a longer trail to walk or bike, but will also expose them to our area’s historical and cultural treasures.

Congratulations to Sheri Wilson and the organizing committee, starting in late 2001 and through today.

Now we need to use the park.

I would guess, but I wouldn't know enough to say for sure, that the Lewis and Clark Riverbend Chapter has used the park for group outings more than any other group. The next scheduled time is June 26, 2008, for the 204th year that Lewis and Clark arrived.

Also a possible is an October 24, 2007 Paw Paw trees re-planting from Gordon Kempf's personal residence to replanting in the park somewhere, with Mike Calwell's help.
