Of course the fucking Tivoli! This movie theater is the film junkie's home sweet home. Other art houses in town are plenty fun, but when it comes to that basic, primal, no-nonsense, foreign- or indie-movie fix, the Tivoli is as reliable as Mother Superior (the nickname of the heroin dealer played by Peter Mullan in Trainspotting). Going to the Tivoli is communal, even if you don't talk to anyone. That's because you're surrounded by people with similar tastes in art and a similar hatred of cell-phone use; the staff has been known to be downright rude to people who let their phones ring during a flick. And rightly so. Watching a movie in a theater can be an intense personal experience. Here's to the Tivoli for continuing to keep that experience sacred amid all the noise.
