A hairstravaganza of an event takes place tonight at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural and Heritage Center (3800 Blue Parkway). At Ms. Khadijah's Styling Artist Hair Show, local hairstylists and barbers show off their best work when their models take the runway. The latest trends, such as extensions and asymmetrical haircuts, will be on display — along with different braid styles, mohawks, and designs and words shaved into hairdos. "My team is trying to bring some of the old trends back, like finger waves," coordinator Khadijah Hardaway says.In addition to the hair show, the festivities include a hair competition for cosmetology students, poetry readings, and musical and dance performances. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the show starts half an hour later. Admission is free, but tickets are required for entrance. They're available from Headliners Barbershop (5721 Prospect, 816-444-4577), Bannister Beauty Supply (8236 East Bannister, 816-761-4300) and Talking Heads (7200 Prospect, 816-363-0101 — ask for Angie). For more information, e-mail Khadijah at Hardaways5@yahoo.com or call 816-914-4610.
