Explosions in the Sky at the Granada

Published on March 27, 2008

Is there any band more quintessentially Texas than Explosions In the Sky? OK, about a thousand. But the Lone Star State has been good to the quartet, setting the stage for the dynamic, instrumental rock group’s contributions to the soundtracks for the Friday Night Lights film and TV series. In a state that values its 36,864 ways to make a burger, the group’s music is equally choosey, utilizing chiming delay pedals and wooshy cymbal swells to craft moody compositions in the vein of Mogwai, Dirty Three and Sigur Ros. A recent appearance on Austin City Limits made us all thankful that the skinny foursome plays with guitars and not pigskins.
