If you love her, let her go. That was Stephen Wolfe’s motto four years ago, after the dissolution of his Lawrence band Getaway Driver. But after a year or so exchanging cold, blank stares with that forsaken guitar in the corner, Wolfe picked it up — and damned if that muse didn’t come crawling right back. This time around, she wore sundresses: twangy guitars, poetic turns of phrase, Last Waltz-inspired melodies and just enough pop-sicles to keep things sticky. When she was nearly wooed, she sent Wolfe into the woods with a digital recorder, and he recorded the birds. They sing cheerfully on the new Cavaliers record, Except for the Birds.
